If you are dreaming of a trip to Africa, you might be thinking, “Can we have a safari and also a beach holiday in Zanzibar?” The answer is yes, and it’s an amazing idea. Imagine this: one day, you are driving through the tall grasses, watching elephants and lions under the warm sun. Then, a few days later, you’re on the soft, white sands of Zanzibar, feeling the gentle breeze from the ocean and listening to the waves. At Mr Burudani, we love to help families, friends, and travelers create this kind of magical adventure. It’s the best way to see both the wild heart of Africa and the calm beauty of the coast.
Going on a safari is full of excitement and wonder. You get to see animals like giraffes stretching their long necks to eat leaves, and elephants taking a cool bath in muddy water. You might even see the maasai warriors, tall and proud in their red blankets, showing you how to jump high in their dances. But after days of driving and exploring, your body might feel tired. That’s when Zanzibar calls to you with its white beaches and warm blue sea. This is why mixing a safari and a beach holiday is perfect. You get the thrill of the wild and then the soft, slow rhythm of the ocean.
There are many beautiful safari parks you can visit before you go to Zanzibar. In Tanzania, there is the Serengeti, a place so wide and full of animals that it feels like a dream. Here, you can watch the Great Migration, when thousands of wildebeest and zebras move across the land. In Kenya, the Masai Mara is a favorite. Lions rest in the golden grass, and the maasai people walk with tall sticks and warm smiles. You can even visit their villages and learn how they live. The maasai women wear bright beads around their necks, and they sing songs that tell old stories.
Another magical place is the Ngorongoro Crater, a green bowl full of life. Everywhere you look, you see animals sharing the land. In Amboseli National Park, you’ll see big groups of elephants and the snow-capped peak of Mount Kilimanjaro in the distance. If you want a quieter park, Tarangire is full of ancient baobab trees and gentle giants like elephants moving slowly under the sun.
When your safari adventure ends, the journey to Zanzibar is easy. From Tanzania, you can fly from Arusha or Kilimanjaro in just an hour. From Kenya, it’s a little longer—about an hour and a half from Nairobi. We at Mr Burudani help you find the best flights, so you don’t have to worry about a thing. You can just sit back and look out the window at the clouds.
When you arrive in Zanzibar, there’s so much to do. Here’s what you can enjoy during your beach holiday:
- relax on the beach
zanzibar’s beaches are soft and white, and the water is warm and clear. places like nungwi, kendwa, and paje are perfect for laying down on a beach chair or playing in the gentle waves. you can build sandcastles or just listen to the ocean’s soft song. - explore stone town
stone town is a magical place full of small streets and old houses with carved doors. you can walk here and see the busy markets, try tasty food, and hear stories about old sailors and traders. - go snorkeling and diving
the sea around zanzibar is full of bright fish and coral. you can wear a mask and swim with the fish, or dive deeper to see even more colors under the sea. - visit jozani forest
in the heart of the island is jozani forest. here, you can see the red colobus monkeys jumping from tree to tree and listen to the birds singing. - take a spice tour
zanzibar is called the “spice island” because of all the spices it grows. you can go on a tour and see how vanilla, cloves, and nutmeg grow. you can even taste some! - sunset dhow cruise
when the sun starts to go down, you can take a ride on a dhow, a wooden boat with a big white sail. it’s peaceful and beautiful to watch the sun make the sky orange and pink.
how long you stay in zanzibar depends on how much you want to see. many people stay four to six days. if you just want to rest, three days is enough. but if you want to do everything, one week is perfect.
Suggested Itinerary:
After enjoying a nice breakfast, you will be driven to Kilimanjaro International Airport, where you’ll catch a domestic flight to Serengeti National Park. When you land, you’ll find yourself near your beautiful lodge, located deep in the heart of this world-famous park. The Serengeti feels like an endless ocean of grass, stretching far and wide, and it’s filled with incredible wild animals. As you drive into the park, your adventure begins with your first game drive. Keep your eyes open—you might see cheetahs resting in the shade, zebras running in groups, lions lounging under trees, elephants slowly walking with their families, or even giraffes and rhinos in the distance. If your visit is during the Great Wildebeest Migration, from June to September, you’ll witness thousands—sometimes millions—of animals moving together across the land. This dry season brings better visibility and higher chances of seeing exciting animal activity. After this thrilling day, you’ll check into your lodge and rest for the night.
On the second day, wake up early and head out for another game drive after breakfast. Today, the adventure continues through the many tracks of the Serengeti. Look carefully and you may see more animals like elands, gazelles, wildebeests, bushbucks, hyenas, leopards, and many others. You might even enjoy a special bush breakfast surrounded by the wild. After a short break, you can go on another drive to spot any animals you may have missed the day before. In the afternoon, you’ll head out again and hopefully catch sight of even more wildlife. When the day comes to an end, you’ll return to your lodge and relax after all the excitement.
The third day is yet another chance to explore more of Serengeti National Park. Rise early, breathe in the fresh air, and set off for another game drive. This is your time to discover parts of the park you haven’t seen yet and to enjoy more wildlife encounters. If it’s still the migration season, you’ll be amazed at how many animals fill the land, moving in search of food and water. The views, the sounds, and the whole experience of being surrounded by nature are unforgettable. After the game drive, head back to your lodge and get ready for your next destination.
On day four, you’ll wake up early and head to the airstrip for your flight back to Kilimanjaro International Airport. From there, you’ll connect to another short flight heading straight to Zanzibar Island. Once you arrive, you’ll check into your beach hotel and finally relax beside the ocean. The peaceful setting, soft sand, and gentle waves are the perfect way to slow down after your safari adventure.
Day five is all about relaxing and enjoying the tropical beach life. After breakfast, you can walk to the beach and take in the beauty of the clear blue sea. If you like, you can try snorkeling, scuba diving, swimming, or just sunbathing on the soft white sand. You can choose whatever feels right for you. Take a break for lunch, then head back to the ocean for more fun or simply lie back and soak in the calm atmosphere.
The sixth day is another great chance to explore more of Zanzibar. After breakfast, you can take part in activities like visiting Stone Town, where you’ll learn about Zanzibar’s rich history and the old slave trade sites. You can also enjoy a peaceful boat cruise, taste fresh spices at the famous spice markets, or even visit a local village to meet the people and experience their culture. If you still feel like swimming or relaxing by the sea, you can do that too.
Finally, on day seven, enjoy a relaxed breakfast and prepare for your flight. You’ll be transferred to the airport and fly back to Kilimanjaro International Airport to catch your flight home. As you leave, you’ll carry unforgettable memories of the wild safaris, the beautiful Serengeti, and the soft, sunny beaches of Zanzibar.
